Spring Into Spring Cleaning
(Brampton) - The arrival of spring always brings a burst of energy for cleaning and sprucing up the house. The Region of Peel would like to give these helpful reminders regarding your spring clean-up efforts.
Stop cluttering your basement with never-to-be-used-again appliances. When it's time to get rid of a burned out stove, refrigerator, dishwasher, or any other large, household appliance, simply call the Region of Peel's WASTELINE, and staff will gladly arrange to take them away. "Large appliances are not removed with normal curbside waste collection," advises Dwayne Cromwell, Acting Manager of Waste Collection and Processing at the Region of Peel. "An appointment for a pick-up must be made for disposal of the appliance."
Has winter's thaw uncovered a yard full of leaves? If so, then you'll be glad to know that the Region of Peel's Yard Waste Program is in full swing. The Region collects yard waste such as leaves, twigs, plant and garden trimmings, branches and brush. Brush can be securely tied together in bundles no larger than 1.2 m (4 feet) in length and 0.76 m (2.5 feet) in width and no heavier than 23 kg (50 lbs.), before placing it at the curb. "Yard waste should be set at the curb on your collection day in open reusable containers, paper yard bags or properly tied bundles," said Cromwell. "As of June 29th, plastic bags that contain yard waste will no longer be collected."
Instead of putting grass clippings out for collection, the Region recommends grasscycling. To grasscycle, leave grass clippings on the lawn to help produce a healthier, greener lawn that requires less watering.
