REGION OF PEEL LAUNCHES 2001 CORDON COUNT PROGRAM

(Brampton) - The Region of Peel's 2001 Cordon Count program has begun, and continues to June 28, 2001. Conducted by Ontario Traffic Incorporated, the Cordon Count is a collection of data gathered for the purpose of analyzing people's traffic patterns across the Region.

Regional staff will analyze the collected data and will, along with other agencies and consultants, use the information for analysis in transportation studies, determining existing and potential deficiencies in road systems, and in monitoring changes in travel commuter patterns to assist transportation planning.

"The Cordon Count is an indispensable tool for transportation planning," says Nick Tunnacliffe, Commissioner of Planning. "In this period of tremendous regional growth, this project is particularly useful and timely."

For further information on the 2001 Cordon Count, contact Dave Durant, Planning department at 905-791-7800, Ext. 4100.
