(Brampton)-Regional Council will receive regular updates from Children's Services at the Region of Peel following the completion of the Region's first year as Service System Manager for Peel's child care centres.

In a report to Council today, the Social Services Department of the Region mapped out the next eight updates that will take place each month, except for the summer months when there are fewer Council meetings. The updates will include discussion of the strategic plan for Children's Services and will offer Councillors a chance to have questions answered about the service.

"These reports will assist everyone-on Council and in the community-with recognizing how well the Region has managed the transition from provincially-funded to Regionally-managed child care services," said Paul Vezina, Commissioner of Social Services with the Region.

The updates to Council will include discussion of new service contracts and increased financial accountability requirements for service providers in Peel.

"We have had a challenging year," said Lorna Reid, Director of Children's Services at the Region of Peel. "We have handled the changes gracefully, and have kept both the children and the operation of the centres a top priority."

Children's Services in the Region of Peel operates 11 child care centres in Mississauga and Brampton and manages the funding for child care centres, family resources and special needs resourcing in the Region of Peel.
