(Brampton)- Regional Chair Emil Kolb and six Regional Councillors yesterday agreed to join Region of Peel senior managers in forming a subcommittee to consider long-term care initiatives in the Region.

Regional Council received a report requesting that the Councillors work with the Commissioners of Social Services and Health and the Director of Long Term Care at the Region to review innovative approaches to planning long-term care. Along with the Regional Chair, Councillors Paul Palleschi; Cliff Gyles; Katie Mahoney; Pat Mullin; Rhoda Begley; and Marolyn Morrison will serve on the committee.

"This is an exciting opportunity to continue moving in a positive direction with long-term care," said Paul Vezina, Commissioner of Social Services with the Region and a member of the sub-committee. "I look forward to working with the members of Council and my colleagues to address the unique needs of seniors who live in Peel Region."

The subcommittee will have responsibility for planning for and naming the two new facilities being built by the Region of Peel. The Region currently owns and operates Peel Manor in Brampton, Sheridan Villa in Mississauga and the Davis Centre in Caledon.

"The new centres that will open early in 2003 will have space for community programming," said Judy Heffern, the Region's Director of Seniors Services. "This subcommittee will provide valuable input into planning those activities."
