Grey Box Campaign Wins National Award

(Brampton) -- The Region of Peel's Communication Services division recently won an Award of Merit from the Canadian Public Relations Society (CPRS), as part of the Association's Awards of Excellence Program.

The award was presented in the External Communication category for the Region's Grey Box campaign.

Last year, a multi-faceted communication strategy was launched to inform Peel residents about the new Grey Box recycling container. The Grey Box was introduced to approximately 220,000 residences in September.

A comprehensive information package, containing an at-a-glance recycling collection calendar, was mailed to residents, supported by advertising, ongoing media relations, posters and truck signs.

Evaluation of the communication tactics demonstrated the campaign's effectiveness, proving that Peel residents understood the information and were using the new recycling container correctly.

"We are pleased and proud to accept the CPRS Award of Merit," says Roger Maloney, Chief Administrative Officer, Region of Peel. "It is a vote of confidence in the Region's ability to compete successfully on a national level."

The CPRS Awards of Excellence Program showcases Canada's best public relations talent, and affords the opportunity to be recognized by industry colleagues for outstanding work and contributions to the public relations profession.

The Region's Grey Box strategy was selected from among 90 public and private sector submissions from across Canada.
