Lack Of Time, Energy And Motivation Are The Top Three Reasons
Why Adults Aged 35-49 Are Not Physically Active
(Brampton) - Peel Health is working to reduce the barriers to physical activity for adults aged 35-49 during this year's SummerActive campaign, a national effort designed to encourage and support inactive Canadians to take the first steps toward regular physical activity.
"Lack of time, energy and motivation are the top three barriers to physical activity for mid-age Canadians," said Dr. David McKeown, Peel Region Medical Officer of Health. "Regular physical activity is critical to reduce the risk of heart disease, adult-onset diabetes, colon cancer, osteoporosis, high blood pressure, depression and premature death."
Regular physical activity has been shown to reduce stress, increase energy and improve self-esteem. Peel Health will be promoting easy and enjoyable ways for Peel residents to get active during two SummerActive Try It events in Mississauga.
The first Try It event will be held on Saturday, May 26, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., at the Shoppers Drug Mart's Healthcare Fair at Westwood Mall in Malton. Visitors to the event can try a number of interactive activities, including gentle stretching, Latin dancing and low-impact fitness. The event is FREE for all participants.
The second Try It event is scheduled for Saturday, June 16, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., at Cawthra Community Centre, on Cawthra Road, south of the QEW, in Mississauga. Visitors to this event can enjoy yoga, walk-and-tone, basic fitness, and displays. This event is also FREE for all participants.
