Region of Peel Stands Ready to Help

(Brampton) - Peel Regional Chair Emil Kolb today expressed extreme sadness and regret for the victims and families impacted by the devastating incident in the United States. Kolb said the Region of Peel stands ready to put forth any resources that may be required, both locally and in support of American cities.

"The Region's emergency services are prepared and ready to assist if required," said Kolb. "We are in constant contact with the federal and provincial governments and other neighbouring regions and cities, and will maintain ongoing communication as needed. We are also in constant communication with officials at Pearson International Airport and Peel Regional Police Chief Noel Catney. Peel Regional Police oversee security operations at the Airport."

The Region is also liaising with officials at the Cities of Brampton and Mississauga and the Town of Caledon to ensure a co-ordinated response.

"It is our understanding that the Greater Toronto Airports Authority (GTAA), in co-operation with the affected airlines, are co-ordinating the accommodation for any international or other travelers whose flights have been interrupted or diverted to Pearson," said Kolb.

"The Region of Peel has its Emergency Operation Centre prepared for operation and is ready to mobilize our Emergency and public services if needed," said Kolb.

All Region of Peel programs and services will continue to operate in a business as usual manner.

"I wanted to thank all those residents who have called to offer to give blood or provide shelter in their homes for stranded travelers," said Kolb. "I also wanted to thank those residents who have called for your patience in getting through on the phone during this hectic situation."
