Regional Chair Emil Kolb Presents Cheque From Annual Hootenanny Funds
(Brampton) - In anticipation of the up-coming Annual Emil Kolb Hootenanny, Regional Chair Emil Kolb and Glen Schnarr, Chair of the Hootenanny Committee, presented a cheque today for $5,000 to representatives from Camp Oochigeas, a residential camp for children with cancer.
"Every contribution helps send kids to camp," said Doug Hitchcock, Camp Councillor and teacher with the Peel District School Board. "Camp Oochigeas changes the lives of the kids who visit the camp - and councillors as well. It's a very special place."
Camp Oochigeas receives a cheque for $5,000 from the Annual Emil Kolb Hootenanny fundraiser for children's charities. Community partners from left to right are Peel Regional Police Constable Sean Parkin, Chair of the Hootenanny Committee Glen Schnarr, Area Councillor Ward 1 Brampton Elaine Moore, Regional Chair Emil Kolb, Camp Oochigeas Councillor Doug Hitchcock and Peel Regional Police Constable Roger Ford.
Established in 1984 as the first residential cancer camp for kids, Camp Oochigeas provides three two-week sessions for more than 200 children with cancer at Rosseau Lake College near Parry Sound. The children attend camp free of charge and the camp relies on donations and volunteers to operate.
"The Hootenanny Committee is pleased to make a donation to such a worthy cause," said Glen Schnarr of Glen Schnarr and Associates and Chair of the Hootenanny Committee. "The Hootenanny fundraiser is reaching the $200,000 mark and this is one of the many donations we make, to support children's charities."
The 7th Annual Emil Kolb Hootenanny will be on September 29, 2001 at the Innis Lake Banquet Hall near Caledon East. For more information on this event or to purchase tickets, please call Liz Hurst at 905-568-8888. If you would like more information on Camp Oochigeas, you can reach the camp by calling 416-961-OOCH.
