(Brampton) – Right now is a great time for smokers in Peel who are considering making the final step to smoke-free living.
Starting next week, the Canadian Cancer Society is launching the provincial Driven to Quit contest where one lucky winner will drive away with a brand-new Acura CSX or take home one of seven Sony 32” widescreen LCD HDTV’s. The launch of the program comes in the middle of National Non-Smoking Week which is celebrated between January 21 and 27 this year.
“Quitting smoking can be so hard,” says Barb Patten, Certified Tobacco Treatment Specialist for the Region of Peel, Public Health. “National Non-Smoking Week and the Driven to Quit contest can be great incentives for smokers to make another attempt to quit for good.”
Most smokers have tried to quit smoking and each quit experience brings them closer to quitting for life. To help smokers achieve their goals, Peel Health offers a free quit-smoking clinic for anyone in Brampton, Caledon and Mississauga. Smokers receive one-to-one counseling and assistance from a public health nurse who will help them create a customized quit-smoking plan tailored to their goals and lifestyle.
“The Peel Health Quit Smoking Program gives people a safe and confidential place to talk through their fears and doubts about quitting, and gives them tools and techniques to try quitting for good,” continues Patten. “Every quit attempt – even the shortest one – is a successful step toward someday quitting for good!”
