Street Helpline Peel Launches Toll-free Number
BRAMPTON, ON. (June 25, 2008) Ė The Region of Peel today launched a new toll-free number for its Street Helpline, enabling clients to call without charge from any phone in Central and Southern Ontario.
Clients who use this service have been advised that starting today, Street Helpline Peel will only be available by calling 1- 877- 848- 8481. The new number will connect callers to the Regionís Customer Contact Centre which will provide information directly or connect callers to the appropriate supports.
Street Helpline Peel is part of the Regionís Outreach program for families and individuals. This collaborative effort between the Region of Peelís Health and Human Services departments, the Canadian Mental Health Association/Peel Branch, St. Leonardís Place Peel, Peel Addiction Assessment and Referral Centre, and Catholic Cross Cultural Services, provides supportive and caring assistance with a broad range of services including: food, clothing, blankets, and mental health and addiction supports. Referral and advocacy is also available for: housing, emergency shelter, medical care and employment.
The Region of Peel Human Services Department, established in June 2007, provides services that support full participation by all residents in the economic, social and cultural life of the Region, in particular by providing a continuum of supports for vulnerable or at-risk members of the community. The Departmentís divisions include Ontario Works, Childrenís Services, Early Years Integration, Social Housing (Peel Living), and Social Housing Policy and Programs.
The Regional Municipality of Peel was incorporated in 1974 on the principle that certain community and infrastructure services are most cost-effectively administered over a larger geographic area. The Region of Peel serves more than one million residents in the Cities of Mississauga and Brampton and the Town of Caledon.
