BRAMPTON, ON. (Jan. 22, 2009) – The Region of Peel wants to help you win a brand-new Chevrolet Malibu hybrid, but most of all we want to help you take a step towards quitting smoking for life.
“In collaboration with the Canadian Cancer Society and the Ontario Ministry of Health Promotion, Peel Public Health is presenting the Driven to Quit Challenge,” says Barb Patten, Tobacco Prevention Supervisor for the Region of Peel. "To win the car, participants must register for the challenge by Feb. 28 and go smoke-free for the month of March. Additional prizes include two vacation getaways and seven $2,000 Canadian Tire gift cards."
To help smokers quit, Peel Health offers a free quit-smoking clinic for anyone in Brampton, Caledon and Mississauga. Smokers receive one-to-one counselling and assistance from a public health nurse who will help them create a customized quit-smoking plan tailored to their goals and lifestyle.
Additional Quit Support is available through the STOP (Smoking Treatment for Ontario Patients) Study which offers free nicotine replacement therapy. If eligible, residents aged 18 years and older will receive five weeks of free nicotine replacement therapy. For more information, call 1-866-484-9022 toll free or visit www.stopstudy.ca.
