Peel Honours Emergency Communicators of the Year

Award winners

Teresa Toscani, 9-1-1 Communicator for Peel Regional Police, and Greg Chambers, Ambulance Communications Officer were presented with the prestigious Paul Schram Memorial Award.

BRAMPTON, ON. (Dec. 11, 2009) – Peel Regional Council presented Teresa Toscani, 9-1-1 Communicator for Peel Regional Police, and Greg Chambers, Ambulance Communications Officer with the prestigious Paul Schram Memorial Award for providing professional, quick and efficient service.

“Peel’s Emergency Communicators provide a vital link between the public and police, fire and paramedic services,” said Regional Chair Emil Kolb. “Their quick thinking when dealing with urgent and often difficult calls helps to ensure Peel residents get the help they require in an emergency situation when every second counts.”

Each year during 9-1-1 Awareness Week, Peel’s outstanding Emergency Communicators are recognized for excelling in their everyday responsibilities. The Paul Schram Memorial Award is named in memory of the late Paul Schram, who was instrumental in developing 9-1-1 service in Peel.

“9-1-1 Awareness Week is an opportunity to remind residents about when it is appropriate to call 9-1-1,” said Paul Palleschi, Regional Councillor and Chair of the Region’s Emergency Protective Services Committee. “It’s important to understand what constitutes an emergency, so police, fire and paramedic services remain available to help those who are experiencing a medical emergency, a fire or a crime in progress.”

Teresa Toscani is a recipient of this year’s Paul Schram Memorial Award for her positive attitude, willingness to be a team player and consistency in providing quality work. She takes pride in her daily responsibilities in Peel Police Services, and enjoys sharing her knowledge through one-on-one training and as Acting Supervisor of her platoon.

Greg Chambers has been chosen to receive this year’s Paul Schram Memorial Award for his leadership qualities, critical thinking skills and ability to coach new staff. Greg has earned the respect and admiration of both his peers and supervisors in Peel Paramedic Services because of his excellent customer service skills, optimistic attitude and eagerness to learn.

The Regional Municipality of Peel was incorporated in 1974 on the principle that certain community and infrastructure services are most cost-effectively administered over a larger geographic area. The Region of Peel serves more than one million residents in the Cities of Mississauga and Brampton and the Town of Caledon.
