Peel Region Receives National Quality Institute’s Highest Honour

BRAMPTON, ON. (Jan. 26, 2010) – On Thursday, Jan. 21, 2010, the National Quality Institute (NQI) presented Region of Peel Council with two prestigious awards – the Order of Excellence, Quality Service and the Canada Award for Excellence (CAE), Healthy Workplace. An awards presentation was held in late October 2009. The Region of Peel is the first government in Canada to receive the Order of Excellence for quality and only the second government in Canada to receive the CAE for Healthy Workplace.

The NQI Canada Awards for Excellence are presented annually to private, public and not-for-profit sector organizations that display outstanding performance as measured by NQI. In achieving this accreditation, the Region confirms its commitment to residents, businesses and its employees and joins an exclusive list of Canada's leading organizations committed to continuous improvement.

“We are committed to providing quality services and doing what’s right for our residents. That means focusing on how to meet their needs and improve their quality of life,” says Emil Kolb, Regional Chair. “That requires us also to focus on how we operate as an organization and the NQI accreditation will keep raising the standard of our work.”

As a requirement of the accreditation process, the Region was evaluated through an independent review process facilitated by representatives of NQI who examined the Region’s approach to leadership, planning, customer service, employee satisfaction, process management, and partnering. A demonstrated commitment to a healthy workplace, employee engagement, customer satisfaction and trust and confidence helped to earn this external recognition.

The Regional Municipality of Peel was incorporated in 1974 on the principle that certain community and infrastructure services are most cost-effectively administered over a larger geographic area. The Region of Peel serves more than one million residents in the Cities of Brampton and Mississauga and the Town of Caledon.
