Stop Flushing Money Down the Toilet

BRAMPTON, ON.  (Nov. 1, 2010) – Peel residents can save money on water bills, reduce water use, and receive a $60 instant rebate by purchasing a high efficiency toilet at select Rona locations on Saturday, Nov. 6, from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

The $60 instant rebate can be applied at the point of purchase to toilets labeled Peel-Approved that are either:

  • Single-flush toilets that are less than or equal to 4.8 litres per flush;
  • Dual-flush toilets with both:
    1. A reduced flush volume of less than or equal to 4.1 litres
    2. A full flush volume of less than or equal to six litres

Region of Peel staff will be at the following Rona locations to help residents fill out rebate application forms, assist with the selection of Peel-Approved toilet models, and answer any questions about water efficiency:

  • 800 Boyer Blvd.
  • 2933 Eglinton Ave W.
  • 3115 Argentia Rd.
  • 650 Dundas St. E.

  • 50 Gillingham Dr.
  • 2830 Queen St. E.

To be eligible for an instant rebate, applicants must live in Peel and own or rent a single or multi-family dwelling. Applicants are requested to bring proof of residency, such as a copy of a water bill or valid photo ID, to verify eligibility. The instant rebate applies to in-stock toilets only and there are no rain checks.

Mail-in rebates are also available from the Region of Peel on an ongoing basis as part of the Toilet Replacement Program. In 2009, the Region of Peel provided more than 27,000 rebates to residents as incentive to phase out older, less efficient (13-20 litres) toilet models, saving over two million litres of water per day. The reduction in water and wastewater requiring treatment and distribution also contributes to a reduction in energy consumption and associated greenhouse gas emissions.

The Regional Municipality of Peel was incorporated in 1974 on the principle that certain community and infrastructure services are most cost-effectively administered over a larger geographic area. The Region of Peel serves more than one million residents in the Cities of Mississauga and Brampton and the Town of Caledon.
