Don’t Forget…Electronic Waste is Not Collected from the Curb

BRAMPTON, ON. (Dec. 22, 2010) – The Region of Peel reminds residents not to put electronic waste at the curb on their collection day.

“During the holiday season there is an increase of electronic waste as residents replace old items with new ones,” says Norman Lee, Director of Waste Management. “Electronic waste is not collected from the curb and residents are required to properly dispose of their electronics at authorized drop-off locations.”

Dedicated loads of electronic waste can be dropped off for free at any of the Region’s Community Recycling Centres and at participating retailers – residents can find their nearest drop-off site at recycleyourelectronics.ca

Disposing of electronic waste at CRCs or participating retailers ensures that it will be properly recycled and that any hazardous components will be diverted from landfill.

The following electronic items are not collected from the curb by the Region of Peel:

  • Desktop computers
  • Laptop computers
  • Computer peripherals
  • Monitors
  • Televisions
  • Printing devices
  • Telephones and accessories
  • Cellular phones
  • PDAs and pagers
  • Video game systems and accessories
  • Audio and video players
  • Cameras
  • Equalizers, (pre)amplifiers
  • Radios
  • Receivers
  • Speakers
  • Tuners
  • Turntables
  • Video players/projectors
  • Video recorders
  • Personal handheld computers

Illegal dumpers of electronic waste (or any other waste) face fines up to $5,000. Residents who witness acts of illegal dumping are asked to call 905-791-9499 (or 905-584-2216 in long-distance areas), and if possible to provide a vehicle license plate or description. All calls are anonymous.
