Peel Paramedics Support Students Attempting CPR World Record

What: Paramedics will be teaching CPR to Cardinal Leger Secondary School students; they’re grade 12 health-care class will attempt to break the Guinness Book of World Records’ longest continual CPR record from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Why: Cardiac arrest patients have a four to six minute window before suffering brain damage and bystander CPR can get blood flowing until paramedics arrive. Increasing awareness will help to increase bystander CPR rates in Peel and will save more lives.
Who: Peel Paramedics and Brampton Fire and Emergency Services teaching CPR; St. John Ambulance teaching students how to use an Automated External Defibrillator (AED); and Dr. Sheldon Cheskes, Medical Director, Sunnybrook Centre for Prehospital Medicine, Region of Peel, demonstrating what happens to the body during CPR.
