2012/2013 Waste Management Guide Coming to Your Home

BRAMPTON, ON.   March 12, 2012 - The 2012/2013 Waste Management Guide will be delivered to Peel households that receive curbside waste collection services beginning March 14, 2012. A separate guide, specific to the waste disposal needs of apartments and condominiums will be delivered in the spring.

Both guides contain important information about the Region’s waste collection programs as well as the services offered at Peel’s network of Community Recycling Centres.  Residents are encouraged to keep their guides for easy reference throughout the year.

New this year, is the application of the tool Google Translate on the Public Works web pages which will allow residents the ability to view the waste management guide in more than 50 languages. This new tool is being tested as a six month pilot project to improve accessibility to information.

Contents of the Waste Management Guide include:

  • curbside collection services – everything you need to know about the Region’s waste collection services including a holiday and exemption period schedule, green bin and blue box tips, yard   waste information and other collection guidelines;
  • (new) reTHINK messages – ideas on how to reduce the amount of waste we generate and reusing     items instead of discarding them; this helps save natural resources, conserves energy and decreases our reliance on landfill;
  • electronics recycling – select electronic waste is not collected at the curb or apartment buildings. Instead, residents can drop off select electronic waste at any CRC to be recycled, free of charge;
  • garbage tag, blue box and green bin pick up locations – a complete listing of the distribution outlets throughout Peel offering garbage tags for purchase. The list also includes locations where residents can purchase or exchange recycling boxes, green bins and kitchen containers and
  • Community Recycling Centres (CRCs) – this section provides a detailed look at the variety of services offered at Peel’s network of CRCs.
