Statement to the Media: Union creates disruption at Region of Peel
The Region of Peel is disappointed to report that at 10 Peel Centre Drive this morning, members of CUPE Local 966 and their affiliates, engaged in aggressive behaviour at the front entrance of the Suite B building. Their efforts to create a disruption included swarming and occupying the main entrance, and triggering the fire alarm.
The situation has been resolved; however, the doors remain locked and access to the building is restricted.
The Region supports the right of union members to picket peacefully, while respecting public property and the safety of the public.
The safety and security of our staff and visitors remains our top priority.
Steve Davis, Director of Human Resources is available for comment.
The Regional Municipality of Peel was incorporated in 1974 on the principle that certain community and infrastructure services are most cost-effectively administered over a larger geographic area. The Region of Peel serves more than 1.3 million people and approximately 88,000 businesses in the cities of Brampton and Mississauga and the town of Caledon.
