Public Works Union Employees Ratify Tentative Agreement
with Region of Peel

BRAMPTON, ON. (July 20, 2012) – The Region of Peel is pleased to announce that more than 280 striking employees in Public Works have ratified a tentative agreement that was negotiated between the Region and the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) Local 966.

“We are pleased that our unionized Public Works employees have ratified the tentative agreement,” said David Szwarc, Chief Administrative Officer, Region of Peel. “The Region believes it is fair and equitable for all of our employees and responsible to our taxpayers.”

Before Public Works employees can return to work, the tentative agreement will need to be ratified by Regional Council at a special meeting on Tuesday, July 24 at 9:30 a.m.

Unionized Public Works employees have been on strike since June 4.

On July 10 more than 600 unionized employees in Human Services and TransHelp returned to work after the Region and CUPE Local 966 ratified collective agreements. Earlier in the year, the Region and CUPE Local 966 also ratified a collective agreement for Public Health employees.
