Public Works Strike Ends at the Region of Peel
Regional Council Ratifies Agreement for More Than 280 Employees

BRAMPTON, ON. (July 24, 2012) – Region of Peel Council has ratified the collective agreement  between the Region and the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) Local 966, which represents more than 280 employees in Public Works.

“Council is very pleased that Public Works employees will be returning to work this week,” said Regional Chair and CEO Emil Kolb. “After 12 weeks of strikes at the Region, Council is looking forward to having all of our employees back to work. As a government we also believe that both employees and taxpayers have benefited from the agreements negotiated this year between the Region and CUPE Local 966.”

The unionized employees in Public Works will return to work on Thursday, July 26.

The Regional Municipality of Peel was incorporated in 1974 on the principle that certain community and infrastructure services are most cost-effectively administered over a larger geographic area. The Region of Peel serves more than 1.3 million people and approximately 88,000 businesses in the cities of Brampton and Mississauga and the town of Caledon.
