BRAMPTON, ON.(May 8, 2013) – Southbound Cawthra Road and westbound Burnhamthorpe Road will be reduced to a single lane at the intersection from Monday, May 13 through Wednesday, May 15 for ongoing watermain construction. No left or right turns will be allowed from southbound Cawthra Road to Burnhamthorpe Road and trucks will not be able to turn left from northbound Cawthra Road to westbound Burnhamthorpe Road.
The watermain installation is a 5-foot diameter section of the Mississauga City Centre Subtransmission, part of the Hanlan Water Project—the largest and most extensive watermain project Peel has undertaken to date. The work is being done in conjunction with City of Mississauga road improvements on Burnhamthorpe Road from Dixie Road to Hurontario Street.
Construction for the Hanlan Water Project began in 2011 and is expected to be completed by the end of 2016. The project is needed to meet the water demands of future population growth, including the Mississauga city centre core. The infrastructure will also provide operational flexibility in the event that the existing Hanlan Feedermain needs to be temporarily shut off for maintenance.
Updates on project related lane closures are available by calling the Hanlan Drivers’ Hotline at 1-855-hanlan1 (1-855-426-5261), by following the project on Twitter @hanlanwp, or by visiting hanlanwaterproject.ca.
