|BRAMPTON, ON (Jan. 8, 2014) - The Region of Peel has received funding from the Provincial Government to distribute grocery store cards to residents. Cards are available to residents who have experienced hardship as a result food loss due to prolonged power outages during the recent ice storm.
To avoid long wait times and line-ups, the Region has implemented a system for residents to call in. To apply for a grocery card, the Region is asking residents to call our main line at 905-791-7800. Eligible families can receive a $100 gift card and individuals can receive a $50 card.
"We are pleased that the Province and a number of corporate donors in Ontario have contributed funding to help our residents who were severely impacted by the recent ice storm," said Regional Chair and CEO, Emil Kolb. "These grocery cards will help those who lost food during the power outage and who can't afford to replace it without assistance."
Instructions on How to Obtain a Grocery Store Card
- Resident of Peel Region (Brampton, Caledon or Mississauga)
- Resident in financial need
- Have lost power for more than 48 hours during the ice storm period
If you meet the eligibility criteria, cards can be requested during the dates/times below:
Date: Tuesday, January 7 to Friday, January 10, 2014
Time: From 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Distribution: Cards will be mailed out to approved recipients.
