Exercise and Falls Prevention Classes for Seniors
BRAMPTON, ON. (April 15, 2014) – Peel Long Term Care is offering exercise and falls prevention classes free of charge to all seniors in Peel. Being active is an important part of remaining independent and healthy for seniors.
Physical activity reduces your risk of falling by giving you more flexible joints, stronger bones and muscles, better heart and lung function, more energy, better sleep, and less anxiety and depression.
The hour long classes involve strengthening and balancing exercises. The classes are developed by a qualified health care professional and run by physiotherapy assistants.
Locations and times:
- Malton Village (Mississauga) – Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays 11:15 a.m. to 12:15 p.m.
- Tall Pines (Brampton) – Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays 9 to 10 a.m.
- Peel Manor (Brampton) – Mondays and Wednesdays 1 to 2 p.m. and Fridays from 2 to 3 p.m.

Sheridan Villa Long Term Care Centre in Mississauga is also hosting exercise and falls prevention classes. The March of Dimes Canada, in collaboration with pt Health Solutions Corp, and with funding from the Mississauga Halton Local Health Integration Network (LHIN), is providing these classes.
The free classes are run by a regulated kinesiologist and are offered at Sheridan Villa on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9 a.m. to Noon on a drop-in basis. For more information, visit MississaugaHaltonLHIN.on.ca or MarchOfDimes.ca.
