BRAMPTON, ON. (April 23, 2014) As residents' ice-storm clean-up efforts continue, the Region anticipates waste collection delays in the Cities of Brampton, Mississauga and the Town of Caledon due to significant volumes of yard waste set-out at the curb for collection. If residents’ waste is not collected on their regularly scheduled collection day, they can leave it at the curb and it will be collected as a priority the following day.
The Region appreciates residents' adherence to proper set-out standards when putting their yard waste curbside for collection:
- small bundles of yard waste and brush must not exceed 1.2 m (4 ft.) in length and 76 cm (30 in.) in diameter and weigh no more than 20 kg (44 lbs.)
- individual branches and tree limbs must not exceed 1.2 m (4 ft.) in length and 7.5 cm (3 in.) in diameter and weigh no more than 20 kg (44 lbs.)
- place yard waste in labelled, open, rigid and reusable containers, bushel baskets, or paper yard waste bags
- yard waste set out in plastic bags, recycling boxes or cardboard boxes, or weighing more than 20 kg (44 lbs.) will not be collected
Also, from April 27 – May 18, the Region will open the Caledon Community Recycling Centre (CRC) on Sundays from 9 a.m. – 4:30 p.m., to assist residents with their ice-storm related yard waste disposal. Residents are reminded that dropping off yard waste at this CRC is always free of charge. The Region of Peel operates a network of five CRCs. Please visit peelregion.ca/pw/waste/crc/ for CRC locations, hours of operation and more information about other environmentally friendly waste disposal services available.
Please note: Residents in the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) Asian Long Horned Beetle (ALHB) quarantined area of Malton cannot move any yard waste, nursery stock, trees, logs, lumber, wood, wood chips and bark chips out of the restricted area. Yard waste in this area will be collected from the curbside on regularly scheduled collection days but cannot be accepted for drop-off at any of the Region’s CRCs.
