Evening Care for Seniors Now Available in Brampton

BRAMPTON, ON. (Jan. 15, 2015) The Region of Peel is launching its first evening adult day services (ADS) program in Brampton at Peel Manor Adult Day Services.†

Growing demand for services that help families and caregivers balance care for seniors with other priorities has prompted the Regionís Health Services department to expand the existing day program which has a growing wait list. The expansion is funded by the Central West Local Health Integration Network (LHIN), the provincially-funded organization that plans, integrates and funds local health care.

ADS is a resource for families who require care for a loved one who has a cognitive disorder such as dementia; physical problems that make it difficult for them to be active; and seniors who would benefit from social, intellectual and physical activities offered by the program. Alison Howard, Manager of Community Support Services, says ADS programs are an increasingly important service for families in Peel.

"Many families have parents or partners who require supervision and care at home.†Having the ability to leave a loved one in a comfortable, safe and caring environment enables caregivers to attend to the other important responsibilities in their lives and to have a break from care giving. We know that involvement in our program benefits the participant and the caregiver in many different ways," Howard said.

The expanded program will offer care from 2:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. and was developed to suit the needs of caregivers who may work shifts, or families with young children who require attention during the afternoon and early evening. ADS participants can attend the program on one or more days a week and can also choose the time that best suit their needs on each day.

The program is offered at a cost of $20.20 per day, which includes the cost of snacks and a meal. New clients are welcome with a referral from the Central West Community Care Access Centre.

Peel Manor is located at 525 Main Street N. in Brampton, south of Bovaird Dr., north of Williams Parkway.†
