How to Dispose of Pumpkins

Brampton, ON (Nov. 3, 2015) With trick or treating done for another year, the Region of Peel advises residents that they can keep pumpkins out of landfill by included them in their organic or yard waste.

Pumpkins can be:

  • chopped up and placed in residents’ green “organics” bin;
  • put into a paper yard waste bag, bushel basket or labelled, open rigid, reusable container; or,
  • placed in backyard composters

A short video demonstrating the three disposal methods can be found by searching for pumpkins in the How To Sort Your Waste tool.

Residents should ensure they remove the candle and wax since it can’t be composted.

If residents choose to set out their pumpkins with their curbside waste, they must do so on their regularly scheduled collection day and their bags or containers must not weigh more than 22 kg (44 lbs).

The Region of Peel provides waste management services in the cities of Brampton and Mississauga and The Town of Caledon.  For more information on these programs, visit peelregion.ca/waste.
