BRAMPTON, ON. (April 14, 2015) – In what has become a yearly tradition, the employees of the Region of Peel and Peel Regional Police celebrated their commitment to improving the local community with a presentation at Regional Council last week. Together, they raised $466,028 in support of the United Way of Peel Region.

Region of Peel employees raised $378,628, while Peel Regional Police employees contributed more than $85,000. The United Way of Peel Region has been the corporate charity of choice for the Region of Peel for more than 40 years. Over the last 10 years; employees of Peel Region and Peel Regional Police have donated more than $4.3 million to support long-term social change in the Peel community.

“I want to express my gratitude to our two co-chairs Jovita Scieranski and Meenu Sikand. The leadership and the commitment they have shown to our community is only one example of the type of dedication our employees have to the residents of Peel Region,” said Regional Chair and CEO Frank Dale. “I am proud of our employees for answering the call of the United Way and we look forward to supporting the United Way in the future.”

The Region of Peel was further recognized for winning the 2014 Labour Award of Distinction for the public sector. This award is presented each year to a workplace and its union members that have demonstrated a commitment to community and to furthering the values shared by the United Way and the Labour Movement. The Region’s Chief Administrative Officer thanked all employees for their efforts and contributions in support of the campaign. “As an employee at the Region of Peel, I’m proud of the contributions we have made to the United Way,” said David Szwarc. “None of this would have been possible without the generosity and commitment of our employees in making our community a healthy and safe place for everyone.”

The United Way of Peel Region provides financial support to more than 50 agency partners in the social services sector in Caledon, Brampton and Mississauga.

“Not only do the Region of Peel and Peel Police continuously work to move the needle on poverty, but you always find such amazing ways to engage everyone in this meaningful work,” said Shelley White, President and CEO of United Way of Peel Region. “Because of our meaningful collaboration, we are able to drive meaningful impact in Brampton, Caledon and Mississauga to help our neighbours. You all come together in the spirit of cooperation to build a better community for everyone. Thank you for all that you do!”
