The Region of Peel-Salvation Army Partnership Celebrates Diverting 1.1 Million Kgs of Reusable Goods in One Year!
Brampton, ON (October 30, 2017) – On Friday, Nov. 3, The Region of Peel and The Salvation Army Thrift Store are celebrating the first anniversary of their partnership. They have diverted 1.1 million kgs (2.4 million pounds) of Peel’s reusable goods, which would have gone to landfill, and are encouraging residents to continue to donate during their fall clean-up.
“We’re delighted to be partnering with The Salvation Army Thrift Store to offer residents the chance to continue to donate, and buy, reusable goods as they prepare their homes and yards for winter,” says Norm Lee, the Region’s Waste Management Director. “Thank you, Peel residents, for supporting this reuse initiative and helping us to get closer to the Region’s goal of diverting 75 per cent of our waste away from landfill.”
Reusable goods that residents can donate are gently used accessories, antiques and collectibles, books and media, eye glasses, furniture, gently used clothing, household items, plumbing fixtures, power equipment, shoes, small appliances, sports equipment, tools, shop equipment, textiles (clothes, bedding, and linens) and toys.
Peel’s partnership with The Salvation Army Thrift Store offers a store at the Region’s Brampton Community Recycling Centre (CRC) at 395 Chrysler Drive and donation drop-off areas in four of the Region’s six CRCs:
- Brampton CRC, 395 Chrysler Dr., Brampton
- Heart Lake CRC, 420 Railside Dr., Brampton
- Battleford CRC, 2255 Battleford Rd., Mississauga
- Fewster CRC, 1126 Fewster Dr., Mississauga
The Salvation Army Thrift Store will mark the anniversary and celebrate diverting 1.1 million kgs of reusable goods over the past year with special events at the Brampton CRC on Friday.
“We are extremely grateful for Peel residents’ generosity throughout the last year of this partnership,” says Michele Walker, The Salvation Army Thrift Store’s National Retail Operations Manager. “To thank our amazing guests and donors, we are having a special event at our Brampton CRC location with refreshments, giveaways for the first 50 purchases and 25% off everything in the store.”
