Region of Peel Receives Canadian Award for Financial Reporting for 16th Consecutive Year

BRAMPTON, ON (Feb 1, 2018) For the 16th consecutive year, the Region of Peel has received the Canadian Award for Financial Reporting from the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA). The Region received the award for its 2016 Community for Life Annual Financial Report. The report provides a full and transparent look at the Region's progress towards its vision of Community for Life and highlights key areas of improvement.

"We are proud to receive this award, as it is a testament to our commitment to financial stewardship and transparent reporting," said Stephen VanOfwegen, Commissioner of Finance and Chief Financial Officer. "This award is a reflection of our dedication to managing tax dollars responsibly today and over the long-term, while remaining open and honest about the Region’s positive financial health. I would like to thank the GFOA for their recognition and look forward to continuing to share our progress in the future."

The Award, which recognizes excellence in government accounting and financial reporting, was established to encourage municipal governments throughout Canada to publish high-quality financial reports. The 2016 Community for Life Annual Financial Report was commended by GFOA for its constructive spirit of full disclosure, designed to clearly communicate the municipality's financial story while motivating the community to read the report.

The 2017 Community for Life Annual Financial Report will be completed and made available to the public in the coming months.
