Class Environmental Assessment for
Caledon East Water Supply
The Study
The Regional Municipality of Peel has initiated a Class Environmental Assessment (EA) for the Caledon East water supply to address the need for future water demands in the area. The Caledon East/Mono Road community is serviced by three municipal wells. The MOE Permit to Take Water (PTTW) for these wells currently limits the combined average day and maximum day water taking. In support of the Study, a hydrogeological investigation is being undertaken to evaluate the potential impacts of revising the PTTW. The Class EA will also evaluate any requirements for the expansion of the existing treatment systems. The Study area is shown in the figure below.
The Process
This Study is being conducted in accordance with Schedule “B” of the Municipal Engineers Association (MEA) Municipal Class Environmental Assessment (2000). The Class EA process includes public and review agency consultation, an evaluation of alternatives, an assessment of the impacts of the proposed work, and identification of measures to mitigate any adverse impacts.
Upon completion of this Study, a Project File documenting the process will be submitted to the Ministry of the Environment (MOE) and will be available for public review for a period of 30 calendar days. Public consultation and participation is a key element of this Class EA. As part of this Study, one Public Information Centre (PIC) is planned. Newspaper notification will be provided prior to the PIC and will specify the date, time and location. At the PIC the Study project team will present the background information, the various alternatives being considered and the next steps in the consultation process.
