The Study

Derry Road, a major east-west arterial road has been identified in the Long Range Transportation Plan (LRTP) as requiring improvements. The purpose of the project is to enhance the overall traffic capacity and improve traffic safety of the transportation system network in the area.
Giffels Associates Limited (Consultant) has been retained by the Region to assist in completing the Class EA Study. A comprehensive and environmentally sound planning process that incorporates public consultation and involves a wide variety of stakeholders is required. The Study Area is shown on the plan provided below.
The Process
The Study will be carried out in accordance with the requirements of a Schedule “C” undertaking of the Municipal Class Environmental Assessment, June 2000.
In accordance with the Municipal Class Environmental Assessment Process, opportunity for public involvement will occur throughout the course of the Study. Two Public Information Centres (PICs) will be held during the Study to seek public and agency consultation and input on specific project details including the generation and evaluation of alternatives, environmental considerations, mitigation of impacts and the selection of the preferred alternative.
At the completion of this Study, an Environmental Study Report (ESR) will be prepared to document the planning process, preliminary design work, and the public and agency consultation process.
