CLASS ENVIRONMENTAL ASSESSMENT
FOR CALEDON EAST WATER SUPPLY

The Study
The Regional Municipality of Peel has initiated a Class Environmental Assessment (EA) for the Caledon East water supply to address the need for future water demands in the area.  The Caledon East/Mono Road community is serviced by three municipal wells. The MOE Permit to Take Water (PTTW) for these wells currently limits the combined average day and maximum day water taking.  In support of the Study, a hydrogeological investigation is being undertaken to evaluate the potential impacts of revising the PTTW. The Class EA will also review the ability of the existing pump houses to treat increased flows.

The Process
This Study is being conducted in accordance with Schedule “B” of the Municipal Engineers Association (MEA) Municipal Class Environmental Assessment (2000). The Class EA process includes public and review agency consultation, an evaluation of alternatives, an assessment of the potential impacts of revising the permit to take water and identification of measures to mitigate impacts, if any.

Upon completion of this Study, a Phase 2 Project File Report will be available for public review and will then be submitted to the Ministry of the Environment (MOE). Public consultation and participation is a key element of this Class EA. As part of this Study, one Public Information Centre (PIC) is planned.   At the PIC the project team will present the background information, the various alternatives being considered and the next steps in the study process.

Public Information Centre
The Public Information Centre (PIC) is scheduled for:

Date:  Tuesday, May 1, 2007
Time: 6 - 9 p.m.
Location: Community Room, Caledon Community Complex
6215 Old Church Rd., Caledon East

The PIC will consist of an informal drop-in centre with display information on the study findings.  Members of the public will have the opportunity to meet the Project Team, ask questions and provide comments.  Anyone with an interest in the Study is invited to attend and participate.
