Notice of Public Open House #1
Hanlan Feedermain Municipal Class Environmental Assessment
The Study
The Region of Peel (the Region), through their consultant Earth Tech Canada Inc., is currently conducting a study to select the preferred route for a new Hanlan Feedermain from the Lakeview Water Treatment Plant to the existing Hanlan Reservoir and Pumping Station in the City of Mississauga (see map). As documented in the Region’s 2007 Water & Wastewater Master Plan Update, this large new secondary feedermain is required to meet the Region’s future water supply needs, including intensification in the City of Mississauga and planned growth. The proposed feedermain will also provide back-up service (security of supply) in the event of a disruption to transmission main service.
The Process
The study is being conducted in accordance with the approved requirements for a Schedule “C” project as described in the Municipal Engineers Association’s Municipal Class Environmental Assessment (Class EA) document (October 2000, as amended in 2007). The Class EA process includes public and government review, agency consultation, an evaluation of feedermain routing alternatives, an assessment of potential environmental effects, and identification of reasonable measures to mitigate any adverse impacts that may result. Upon completion of the study, an Environmental Study Report will be prepared and placed on public record.
Public Open Houses
As part of this study, two rounds of Public Open Houses are planned. The first round will consist of an informal drop-in centre with displays to present the study background information, potential feedermain routes (see map) and the proposed evaluation criteria to determine the preferred route. Representatives from the Region and Earth Tech will be present to answer questions and discuss the next steps in the study. The first round of Public Open Houses is scheduled for:
Wednesday, June 4, 2008
4 to 8 p.m.
Tomken Twin Arena
4495 Tomken Rd.
Tuesday June 3, 2008
4 to 8 p.m.
Cawthra Community Centre
1399 Cawthra Rd.
The second round of Public Open Houses is planned for Fall 2008 and will present the recommended route and design concepts. Notification of Public Open House #2 will be provided by means of a similar newspaper advertisement and with notification to those on the project mailing list.
Comments
Public consultation is vital to this study. We want to ensure that anyone who may be impacted by the proposed project has the opportunity to get involved and provide input before any decisions are made. The final route for the proposed feedermain has not yet been determined, so the Region needs your input to ensure that study area features are documented and appropriate criteria are used to select the preferred route.
If you cannot attend one of the above Open Houses, there are other ways you can provide input and/or be kept informed:
- Visit the Region’s website for study updates: www.peelregion.ca/HanlanEA
- Contact one of the following team members if you have any questions or comments, or wish to be added to the mailing list.
