Municipal Class Environmental Assessment for Replacement of the Former Chinguacousy Landfill Pumping Station and Forcemain
The Study
The Region of Peel is initiating a Municipal Class Environmental Assessment (Class EA) to replace a 75 mm diameter forcemain that conveys leachate from the former Chinguacousy Landfill site located at Dixie Road and King Street to the Mayfield Pumping Station located at Mayfield Road and Bramalea Road in the Town of Caledon. The existing forcemain and pumping station are scheduled for replacement. A comprehensive and environmentally sound planning process that incorporates public consultation and involves a wide variety of stakeholders is required. The Study Area is shown on the plan provided below.
Note – this project is separate from the ongoing/proposed upgrades to the Peel Curing Facility.
The Process
This Study is being conducted in accordance with Schedule ‘B’ of the Municipal Engineers Association (MEA) Municipal Class Environmental Assessment (October 2000, as amended in 2007). The Class EA process includes public and review agency consultation, a screening of alternative routes for the forcemain, and alternative design concepts for the pumping station, an assessment of the impacts of the preferred solution and identification of measures to mitigate any adverse impacts.
Upon completion of this study, a Project File documenting the process will be submitted to the Ministry of the Environment (MOE) and will be available for public review for a period of 30 calendar days.
Public consultation is vital to this Study. We want to ensure that anyone with an interest in this Study has the opportunity to get involved and provide input before any decisions are made on the preferred solution. A Public Information Centre is tentatively scheduled for June 2008 where representatives will be present to answer questions and discuss the next steps of this Study. Notification will be provided at the appropriate time.
