Notice of Public Information Centre # 2
Clarkson Wastewater Treatment Plant Municipal Class Environmental Assessment
The Study
The Regional Municipality of Peel (the Region) is completing a Schedule “C” Class Environmental Assessment (Class EA) study for the expansion of the Clarkson Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) from the current capacity of 200 megalitres per day (MLD) to a capacity of 350 MLD. The Region’s Water and Wastewater Servicing Master Plan Update (2007) has confirmed the need for expanding the Clarkson WWTP (see map) which treats wastewater from the Region’s West Trunk system. The proposed expansion will treat expected flows from West Central Peel Region and offers the Region the opportunity to satisfy future servicing and regulatory requirements on a regional basis.
The Process
The study is being conducted in accordance with the requirements for Schedule “C” projects as described in the Municipal Engineers Association’s Municipal Class Environmental Assessment (EA) document (October 2000, as amended in 2007). The Class EA process includes public and review agency consultation, evaluation of alternative design concepts, assessment of the impacts of any proposed undertakings, and identification of reasonable measures to mitigate any adverse impacts. Upon completion of the study, an Environmental Study Report will be prepared and placed on public record.
Public Information Centre # 1
Public Information Centre # 1 (PIC) was held on November 26, 2007 and presented study background, including the need and justification for the project, alternative design concepts and evaluation criteria.
Public Information Centre # 2
PIC # 2 will present the recommended design concept for the proposed WWTP expansion as well as the evaluation of alternative design concepts and proposed mitigation measures. Representatives from the Region and its consultants, Earth Tech, will be present at PIC # 2 to answer questions and discuss the next steps in the study. PIC # 2 is to be held as follows:
