Notice of Study Commencement

King Street (Regional Road 9) Improvements - Humberlea Road to Peel/York Boundary
Municipal Class Environmental Assessment Study

Map of study areaThe Study
The Regional Municipality of Peel has initiated a Municipal Class Environmental Assessment (EA) for the two lane reconstruction and urbanization of King Street (Regional Road 9), from Humberlea Road to the Peel/York Boundary.  The site location and approximate extent of the Study Area are shown on the Plan provided.

The Process
This study is being carried out in accordance with the requirements of a Schedule “B” undertaking as outlined in the Municipal Engineers Association Municipal Class Environmental Assessment document (October 2000, as amended in 2007).  The Class Environmental Assessment planning process includes public and review agency consultation, evaluation of alternatives, assessment of the effects of the proposed works and identification of measures to mitigate any adverse impacts.

Public consultation is vital to this study. The Region plans to hold one Public Information Centre (PIC) as part of the study. The PIC is tentatively scheduled for fall 2008. The PIC will provide background information on the Study, comparative analysis of various alternatives and the technically preferred alternative. Representatives from the Region and the Consultant will be present at the PIC to answer questions about the study. Notification of the PIC will be provided at the appropriate time by means of a similar advertisement.

The Region is interested in receiving comments on the proposed study and wants to ensure that anyone interested in this study has the opportunity to get involved and provide input. Please visit our website for updates on the project.

Upon completion of the study, a Project Summary Report will be prepared and made available for public review for a period of 30 days.  Subject to comments received and the receipt of necessary approvals, the Region intends to proceed with the detailed design and construction of this project.
