Notice of Study Completion

Class Enviromental Assessment for
Glen Erin Booster Pumping Station and Feedermain

Map of study area

The Region of Peel has completed a Class Environmental Assessment (EA) study to select the preferred site for the Glen Erin Booster Pumping Station and Feedermain route alignment, in the City of Mississauga. The project was proposed as a result of observed low and high water pressures within the study area in the Region of Peel. The observations were consistent with previous modifications to the Region’s pressure zone boundaries. In an effort to resolve these concerns, improvements are proposed to regulate pressures in the Region’s Pressure Zones 4 and 5.

The study has been conducted in accordance with the requirements of Schedule ‘B’ projects of the Municipal Class Environmental Assessment document (June 2000). The Class EA process included public and review agency consultation, an evaluation of alternatives, an assessment of the impacts of the proposed works and identification of measures to mitigate any adverse impacts.

A preferred solution has been recommended as a result of this Class EA study. The recommended solution for the low water pressures experienced in Zone 4A comprises the construction of the Glen Erin Booster Pumping Station on a parkland located approximately 160 m west of Glen Erin Drive, a new feedermain along Battleford Road from west of Winston Churchill Boulevard to Glen Erin Drive, as well as the installation of four (4) check valves as shown in the map to the left.

Existing wide pressure fluctuations in Zone 5A will be resolved by installation of three (3) pressure reducing valves in the high areas of the zone, as shown in the map to the left.

A Project File Report documenting the planning and decision making process followed during the Class EA study has been prepared. By this notice, the Project File Report has been placed on the public record for a 30-day review period, in accordance with the requirements of the Municipal Class EA process.

Subject to comments received as a result of this Notice and the receipt of all necessary approvals, the Region of Peel intends to proceed with the detailed design and construction as recommended in the Project File Report.

The Project File Report will be available for a public review period starting on July 2, 2008 until Aug. 3, 2008, at the following locations:
