Notice of Study Completion

Streetsville Pumping Station and Reservoir Capacity Increase
Municipal Class Environmental Assessment

Map of study areaThe Study
The Regional Municipality of Peel (the Region) has completed a Municipal Class Environmental Assessment (Class EA) Study for an increase in reservoir and pumping capacity in Zones 3 & 4 of the Region’s water distribution network. The increased capacity is required to service West South-Central Peel Region. Stand-by power is also proposed to ensure water supply in the case of a power failure. The need for this study was identified in the Water and Wastewater Servicing Master Plan (2001), with the proposed works required to be in place by 2010 in order to improve security of supply and accommodate anticipated development and projected water demand.

The Process
The study was conducted in accordance with the requirements for Schedule B projects as described in the Municipal Engineers Association Municipal Class Environmental Assessment (October 2000 as amended in 2007). The Class EA process included public and review agency consultation, evaluation of alternatives, assessment of the impacts of any proposed undertakings, and identification of reasonable measures to mitigate any adverse impacts.

Public Open House No. 1 and 2
The first Public Open House was held on Sept. 18, 2007 to introduce the project and present an evaluation of alternative solutions, which concluded that the expansion of the existing Streetsville Reservoir and Pumping Station facility (see map) is preferred. Public Open House No. 2 was held on Jan. 28, 2008 to provide an evaluation of alternative design concepts including the recommended Streetsville pumping station and reservoir capacity increase design concept as well as mitigation measures.
