PUBLIC INFORMATION CENTRE #2

Peel-Highway 427 Extension Area
Transportation Master Plan

The Study
The Peel-Highway 427 Extension Area Transportation Master Plan is a joint study between the Region of Peel, City of Brampton and Town of Caledon. This study is being conducted in coordination with the Ministry of Transportation of Ontario, the Region of York and the City of Vaughan. The purpose of the study is to carry out a comprehensive review of the future transportation network needs in Northeast Brampton and Southeast Caledon. Specific goals and objectives of the study are to:

  • Identify and develop a long term transportation network to support municipal planning goals;
  • Identify the best ways to connect between the Highway 427 extension and municipal roads; and
  • Serve the future transportation demands in the southern Peel-York boundary area.

The Process
This joint study is carried out through an open public process in accordance with the requirements of Phase 1 and 2 of the Municipal Class Environmental Assessment (EA) process. The study results can serve as direct input to any subsequent EA studies that may be deemed appropriate. A key component of the study will be consultation with interested stakeholders (public and regulatory agencies) at two Public Information Centres (PICs).

The first PIC was held on Wednesday, Apr. 9, 2008. Thereafter, the technically preferred solution has been identified, taking into consideration the problem being addressed, alternative solutions, environmental effects, and comments that were received from regulatory agencies and the public. The technically preferred solution includes a combination of road widenings and the provision of a new road connection from Regional Road 50 at Major Mackenzie Drive to Mayfield Road.

A second PIC has been arranged to present the preferred alternative solution and to receive feedback from the public and stakeholders. Following this PIC, the preferred solution will be reviewed taking into consideration the comments received.
