Class Environmental Assessment
Retiring of Water Supply Facility (Groundwater Well) in Palgrave
Town of Caledon
The community of Palgrave is supplied with water by two production wells: Palgrave Well #2 (PG2) and Palgrave Well #3 (PG3). A new well, Palgrave Well #4 (PG4) has been installed by the Region of Peel and will soon be put into regular operation. With the new well online, the Palgrave groundwater system will have sufficient capacity to meet the projected water demand. The original Palgrave Well #1 (PG1), which previously serviced the community, was taken out of service in 2004 due to its inadequate water supply. The Region of Peel intends to retire PG1 as required by the Ministry of the Environment under Ontario Reg. 903 and demolish the unused pumping station building.
The retirement of a water supply facility is subject to the requirements of the Class Environmental Assessment planning process as outlined in the Municipal Engineers Association’s Municipal Class Environmental Assessment, dated October 2000, as amended in 2007. The Region of Peel is undertaking the Environmental Assessment for the retiring of PG1. Upon completion of the Class Environmental Assessment, a Notice of Completion will be issued and an opportunity provided for public feedback into the project.
The public and review agencies are invited to provide comments for incorporation into the overall completion of the project. The Regional Municipality of Peel is interested in receiving any comments that you may have regarding this project. With the exception of personal information, all comments will become public record. Subject to comments received and the receipt of necessary approvals, the Regional Municipality of Peel intends to proceed with the planning, design and demolition of the PG1 facility and well decommissioning (sealing) with construction anticipated during the spring of 2009.
