NOTICE OF STUDY COMPLETION
STEELES AVENUE AND ADVANCE BOULEVARD
INTERSECTION IMPROVEMENTS
MUNICIPAL CLASS ENVIRONMENTAL ASSESSMENT
The Study
The Region of Peel has retained GENIVAR to investigate improvements to the Steeles Avenue and Advance Boulevard intersection in the City of Brampton (Project# 07-4255). The study area is presented in the key plan below.
The recommended preferred solution is the reconstruction of the existing intersection to accommodate for additional storage capacity for turning vehicles, which would improve safety and service levels. Accommodating turning vehicles from the flow of through traffic would greatly reduce the number of rear-end collisions, as well as allow for continuous movement of through traffic.
The proposed improvements to the intersection are:
Steeles Avenue
- Increase the lane widths to design standards,
- Add a second westbound left turn lane, and
- Provide an eastbound transit queue jump lane through the intersection and a bus bay immediately east of Advance Boulevard.
Advance Boulevard
- Reconstruct the lane widths to design standards, and
- Provide a northbound right turn lane.
The Process
The study followed the approved planning process for Schedule “B” projects under the Municipal Engineers Association’s Municipal Class Environmental Assessment (EA) (September 2007).The Class EA process included consultation with regulatory agencies, landowners, and the public, assessment of the impacts, and identification of reasonable measures to mitigate any adverse impacts. A Project File maintained during the study and an Environmental Assessment Study Report is available for public review for a period of 30 calendar days (starting on March 4, 2009 and ending April 3, 2009).
