Notice of Study Limit Extension
Municipal Class Environmental Assessment Dixie Road (r.r #4) From Queen Street to 2 Km North of Mayfield Road
The Regional Municipality of Peel initiated a Municipal Class Environmental Assessment Study in June 2008 for improvements on Dixie Road from Queen Street to Mayfield Road to support planned growth in the area and to provide for additional north-south road capacity in accordance with the Region’s Long Range Transportation Plan. The first Public Information Centre (PIC) for the study was held in November 2008.
Study Limit Extension
During the public and agency consultation process it was determined that the study limits will need to be extended approximately 2 km north of Mayfield Road to review and evaluate the impacts of the proposed industrial development in the Town of Caledon. The Region intends to extend the study limits to approximately 2 km north of Mayfield Road to develop a comprehensive and long term solution for the corridor. The approximate limits of the extended and current Study Area are presented on the map.
This project is being conducted in accordance with the requirements for Schedule “C” projects as described in the Municipal Engineers Association document “Municipal Class Environmental Assessment, October 2000, as amended in 2007”. The Class EA process includes public and review agency consultation, evaluation of alternatives, assessment of the impacts of any proposed undertakings, and identification of reasonable measures to mitigate any adverse impacts. Upon completion of the study, an Environmental Study Report will be submitted to the Ministry of the Environment and made available for public review for a period of 30 days.
Public Consultation is vital to the success of this study. We want to ensure that anyone interested in this study has the opportunity to get involved and provide input. The Region intends to hold the second PIC in Spring 2010 to present the problem statement, evaluation of alternatives and the preliminary recommended alternative for the extended study area. In addition, the Region will present the study findings and the preliminary recommended design concept for the entire study corridor at the second PIC. The PIC will provide stakeholders with the opportunity to ask questions to the Project Team, review project information and provide their input. Notification of the second PIC will be sent out as the study progresses.
