NOTICE OF STUDY COMMENCEMENT AND PUBLIC INFORMATION CENTRE
REGION OF PEEL 2012 WATER AND WASTEWATER MASTER PLAN
FOR THE LAKE-BASED SYSTEMS
The Study
The Region of Peel has initiated a Water and Wastewater
Master Plan for its lake-based systems (where Lake Ontario
is the source of drinking water and the discharge point for
treated wastewater) to update the current 2007 Master
Plan.
The objective of the study is to identify long-term servicing
plans for the Region’s lake-based water and wastewater
systems to support growth to 2031 and to consider longerterm
servicing needs for growth beyond 2031.
The plans will accommodate the 2031 targets set out in the
Places to Grow Plan (2005).
The study area for the 2012 Water and Wastewater Master
Plan includes the City of Mississauga, the City of Brampton
and parts of the Town of Caledon.
The study will also review the Region’s capital plan to meet
the current servicing agreements with York Region and the
City of Toronto.
The Process
The study will define existing problems and opportunities,
consider and evaluate solutions and identify preferred water
and wastewater servicing strategies. The study follows
the master planning process of the Municipal Engineer’s
Association. The Master Plan will follow Approach #2 which will fulfill the requirements for Schedule A, A+, and B
projects and become the basis for future investigations for specific Schedule C projects.
Public Consultation
The Region wishes to ensure that anyone with an interest in this study has the opportunity to be involved and to provide
input. Opportunities for input will include two Public Information Centres (PICs) as well as direct consultation. The PICs will
be held at key points during the study to present the study findings to-date and gather feedback. Representatives from the
Region and its consultants will be present at the PICs to answer questions and discuss the next steps in the study.
