Environmental Assessment Study

Notice of Public Information Centre (PIC) #3 - East to West Wastewater Diversion Strategy

What?

enlarge [+]
Recommended Trunk Sewer Alignment
  • The Region of Peel has identified the need to develop and implement a new plan to carry a portion of wastewater from the east to the west as part of a study called a Class Environmental Assessment (Class EA)
  • The system consists of two separate gravity trunk sewer systems – the east trunk and west trunk – that end near Lake Ontario at the G.E. Booth Wastewater Treatment Facility (WWTF) and the Clarkson WWTF.
  • The Region of Peel’s lake-based wastewater collection system serves the cities of Mississauga, Brampton and parts of the Town of Caledon.

Why?

  • To provide wastewater services as part of the Region’s long-term sustainable plan.

How?

  • The study has investigated alternative diversion strategies, routes and design concepts, and confirmed the preferred plan including alignments, siting, design and construction timing for the plan.
  • At the end of the study, an Environmental Study Report (ESR) documenting the entire study process will be available for public review.

Get Involved!

  • Public input is welcome for the planning, design and construction of this project.
  • This third and final Public Information Centre will present the evaluation and selection of the preferred tunnel shaft sites and design concepts, the recommended construction methodology for the trunk sewer, and the measures to reduce construction impacts.
  • Alternative 1a, which follows Derry Road / Old Derry Road and Old Creditview Road / Creditview Road, has been identified as the recommended trunk sewer alignment. This route is shown in the map. Tunnelling has been identified as the preferred construction methodology due to the depth of the gravity sewer.
