Preventing Homelessness in Peel Program (PHIPP)

Purpose | Eligibility

The Preventing Homelessness in Peel Program (PHIPP) initiative is managed and administered by Ontario Works in Peel.

Purpose

PHIPP provides one-time emergency assistance to low-income families and individuals at risk of losing their home or place of shelter. In the short term, PHIPP allows families and individuals to maintain or obtain affordable housing to prevent homelessness. To access this service, please call 905-793-9200.

Eligibility

The Preventing Homelessness in Peel Program helps Region of Peel residents who:
  • Intend to continue living in Peel
  • Are under threat of eviction, or are currently homeless or residing in a temporary shelter
  • Have exhausted all options for financial and housing supports, including friends and family
  • Are not eligible for assistance under the Ontario Works or Ontario Disability Support Programs
  • Are not eligible to receive more appropriate assistance from any other agency.

Ontario Works completes a needs test for all applicants and provides financial assistance, and landlord and tenant mediation, to eligible residents who need help securing affordable accommodation or preventing eviction.
