Free Income Tax Preparation Services

The Region of Peel Human Services Department is hosting Free Income Tax Preparation Services for low income individuals and families.  Accountants from the Certified General Accountants of Ontario – Peel Chapter will be preparing the tax returns as part of the Canada Revenue Agency's Community Volunteer Income Tax Program.

Free Tax Preparation Services are for:

  • Individuals with gross income (before deductions) under $30,000; or
  • Single parent families with gross income (before deductions) under $35,000, or
  • Couples with gross income (before deductions) under $40,000
  • This service is available by appointment only.

Income Tax returns with the following types of income and/or expenses do not qualify for volunteer tax assistance, because these types of returns are more complex and require additional time to prepare:

  • Rental income (or losses)
  • Business income (or losses)
  • Foreign income
  • Capital gains (or losses)
  • Employment expenses
  • Interest income exceeds $1,000
  • Returns for deceased individuals
  • Returns for bankrupt individuals
  • Corporate or trust income tax returns

Important Notes:

  • Only Ontario residents can take part (out-of-province returns cannot be done)
  • E-filing is available at all locations.  In the event e-filing is not available due to technical difficulties, the accountants will prepare paper copies of the Tax Return and clients will be responsible for mailing their completed return to the Canada Revenue Agency.  E-filing is now available for people filing a tax return for the first time.

Sign-up must be done in advance.

When you sign-up, you will be given an appointment time and a list of the documents that you will need to bring with you to your appointment.
