Introduction
Ontario Works (OW) in Peel’s dental program consists of the following:
- Emergency dental program for adults,
- Denture program for clients of OW and recipients of the Ontario Disability Program (ODSP), and
- Dental program for children.

Emergency Dental Program for Adults
OW in Peel provides emergency dental coverage to social assistance clients 18 years of age and older and dependent adults (18 years of age and older) whose parents are receiving ODSP.
An emergency is defined as "an immediate circumstance where the patient appears in immediate suffering, requires care and immediate appropriate treatment is instituted to correct the problem".
- Coverage is a discretionary benefit.
- This program is administered by the Great West Life Assurance Company.
- The program is limited to the listed procedures and fees outlined in Peel’s Schedule of Emergency Dental/Denture Services and Fees.
- Clients will be expected to pay:
- For services not covered in Peel’s dental/denture fee guide; and/or
- The difference for services exceeding the maximum amounts listed in Peel’s dental/denture fee guide.
- Coverage takes effect on the date the person becomes eligible to receive OW and continues in each month you are eligible for assistance.
- Coverage terminates the last day of the month OW ceases.
- Pre-determination of treatment is not required under the Emergency Dental Program.

Denture Program
OW in Peel provides denture coverage for clients receiving OW assistance and recipients receiving ODSP.
- Coverage is a discretionary benefit.
- The program is administered by the Great West Life Assurance Company.
- The program provides a basic denture program that covers dentures, denture repairs and relines.
- Coverage takes effect on the date the person became eligible to receive OW or ODSP.
- Recipients of ODSP must reapply through the OW office each time there is a need for denture services.
- Coverage terminates the last day of the month OW or ODSP ceases.
- Pre-determination of treatment is required under the Denture Services Program.

Dental Program for Children
Ontario Works in Peel does provide basic dental coverage for children (0-17) who are a member of an OW benefit unit, receiving assistance in their own right or are receiving temporary care assistance. This program is a comprehensive dental plan designed by the Ministry of Community and Social Services (MCSS).
- Coverage is a mandatory benefit.
- This program is administered by the Great West Life Assurance Company.
- The program is limited to the listed procedures and fees outlined in the MCSS Schedule of Dental Services and Fees.
- Clients will be expected to pay:
- For services not covered in the MCSS fee guide; and/or
- The difference for services exceeding the maximum amounts listed in the MCSS fee guide.
- Coverage takes effect on the date the person becomes eligible to receive OW and continues in each month you are eligible for assistance.
- Coverage terminates the last day of the month OW ceases.
