Job Application: ***Mandatory 2-Step Process***

Exam Registration (click)

PRPS will be holding a written exam on February 3rd, 2018. In order to be eligible to write the exam, applicants must have proof of the following:

  • Diploma in Ambulance and Emergency Care OR be a graduate from an approved Ontario Primary Care Paramedic training program/equivalent OR have a pending graduation date no later than June 11th, 2018
  • Valid "F" class license or equivalent

Regional Career Opportunity Submission (click)

All applicants are required to formally apply for a position within Peel Regional Paramedic Services by using the Region's Career Opportunity site. Please use the following link to access the current Paramedic postings. Ensure that you complete the online application and submit a résumé (Peel Career Opportunities). Candidates who fail to complete this step in the application process will not be permitted entrance to the exam.


In order to apply for a position you MUST register for the written exam and submit the online application form/submit your résumé through the Region's Career Opportunity site. Links for both steps are provided within the boxes above. Failure to complete either step in the JOB APPLICATION process will result in immediate withdrawal from recruitment.

Recruitment Testing: Process Overview

STAGE 1 - Written Exam (click)

Multiple choice exam.

Questions on the exam fall under four (4) main categories including:

Ministry Standards, Guidelines & Acts

Content focusing on the following:
  • Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care Basic Life Support Patient Care Standards (BLS PCS) version 3.0.1 – December 11th, 2017
  • Ontario Ambulance Documentation Standards version 3.0, Patient Care and Transportation Standards version 2.2, Prehospital CTAS Paramedic Guide version 2.0

Medical Directives

Content focusing on the following:
  • Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care Advanced Life Support and Patient Care Standards (ALS PCS) version 4.4 – December 11th, 2017


Content focusing on the following:
  • Pharmacological theory and specific application, drug classifications/identification, medication interactions, pharmacodynamics/kinetics and medical math

Pre-Hospital Science

Content focusing on the following:
  • Anatomy and Physiology, Pathophysiology, EGC Interpretation, etc.

STAGE 2 - Interviews (click)

Candidates who are successful on the written exam will be invited to a circuit interview. This exercise is approximately 60 minutes in duration.

STAGE 3 - Practical Testing (click)

Candidates who are successful in the interview process will be invited to practical testing. This phase of recruitment will include a scenario circuit. This exercise involves a number of short scenarios covering a wide range of patients/pre-hospital situations. The entire exercise will be approximately 2 hours in duration.

STAGE 4 - Driver Testing (click)

Candidates who are successful in practical testing will be invited to a road test. Please be advised that this driving assessment will be completed outdoors in an ambulance. Following the road test candidates will submit all required HRI documentation (see DOCUMENTATION REQUIREMENTS section).

Documentation Requirements

Please ensure that all of the following medical, physical and legal documentation is complete prior to the due dates mentioned below. Only ORIGINAL copies will be accepted.

Documentation - Details & Forms (click)

Physical Testing: A Physical Agility Evaluation (PAE) must be completed by Sibley & Associates. Only those candidates with a successful PAE Summary Certificate from Sibley will be eligible to accept employment. Physical Agility Evaluations must be completed no earlier than October 13th, 2017. PAE Summary Certificates dated prior to this are no longer valid. Due date: Practical Testing date.

Medical Documentation: (Health Questionnaire & Paramedic Recruitment Influenza Declaration 2018 & Influenza Educational Review). Due date: Driver Testing date. START EARLY!!!!!

HRI Checklist: Ensure that you have all documents outlined on the checklist (HRI Checklist 2018). Due date: Driver Testing date.

Criminal Record Check: Must be dated within 45 days of Drivers Testing date. Vulnerable Sector Checks dated prior to February 17th, 2018 will not be accepted. Due date: Driver Testing date.

*NOTE - Some Municipalities require a signed Criminal Record Request form from the Region of Peel.  Please determine whether your local Police Department requires this form, and if so, you can pick one up at the written exam. Processing time for Vulnerable Sector Checks vary between Municipalities check with your local Police Department and plan accordingly.

January 12th, 2018: Job posting on Regional Career Opportunity site and online exam registration OPEN
January 25th, 2018 (midnight): Job posting on Regional Career Opportunity site and online registration for written exam CLOSE
February 3rd, 2018: Written Exam
February 20th - March 1st, 2018: Interviews
March 13th – 22nd, 2018: Practical Testing (successful Sibley Assessment submitted on day of testing)
April 3rd – 6th, 2018: Driver Testing and Documentation submission (ALL MEDICAL, LEGAL AND CHECKLIST DOCUMENTATION IS DUE AT YOUR ASSIGNED TEST TIME)
STARTING April 4th, 2018: Job Offers (conditional)
May 1st - 4th, 2018: Regional Pre-Orientation
May 7th - 14th, 2018: Base Hospital Training & Certification Testing (OSCE)
STARTING May 15th, 2018: PRPS Orientation (Group 1)
