Peel Paramedic heading to Afghanistan
Date: August 25, 2008
Peel Regional Paramedic James Park is being deployed to Afghanistan to work as a military medic. James is looking forward to serving his country with the Canadian Forces and using his skills, knowledge and training as a Peel paramedic to help his fellow soldiers.
When in Afghanistan, James will be the health service support
mentor within the Operational Mentoring Liaison Team. His job will be to work with his senior medical counterpart and teach junior medics first aid and combat first aid as well as provide medical support to Canadian soldiers assigned to the team and to members of the Afghan National Army.
James’ preparation for this mission to Afghanistan has been extensive. He has spent the last several months completing challenging training in military communication, weapons handling, first aid and a fitness test that included a 13 kilometre march wearing tactical vests, helmet, 40-pound backpack and a personal weapon.
“I’m looking forward to learning about a different culture, seeing a different part of the world, learning a new language and interacting with people who have very different ways of doing things,” says James. “I hope that this experience will improve my skills and make me a better paramedic.”
We extend our best wishes to James for a safe and rewarding mission to Afghanistan and eagerly anticipate the return of one of our local heroes.
