Paramedics ‘show and tell’
During Paramedic Week, from May 16 – 22, Peel paramedics were involved in different events and public education opportunities within the community to demonstrate the importance of CPR, familiarity of public access defibrillators and properly using the 911 system.
Responding to over 80,000 emergencies each year – approximately 200 each day, these professionals do everything from restart a failed heartbeat to hold a patient’s hand during very frightening and vulnerable moments.
“Paramedics deliver excellent pre-hospital care to our residents despite the daily challenges they face,” said Peter Dundas, Chief of Peel Regional Paramedic Services. “Paramedic Week is a great opportunity to celebrate the vital role paramedics play in our communities.
”To help ease some of the obstacles paramedics experience, residents can move to the right when an emergency vehicle with lights and sirens is approaching, visit a family doctor or walk-in clinic for non-emergencies and prepare for paramedics after 911 is called.
